What is Beta Beta Beta? Beta Beta Beta, or Tri-Beta, is an organization for students in the biological sciences. This prestigious national honor society’s purpose is to promote scholarship in the biological sciences, to promote dissemination of biological knowledge and to encourage research. For more information about this honor society, visit the national website at http://www.tri-beta.org. TCNJ: The Chi Upsilon Chapter Throughout the school year, the members of Tri-Beta at TCNJ participate in many service activities that promote interest, scholarly attainment, and research in the biological sciences. Tri-Beta runs the Peer Mentoring program for freshman Biology majors, serves the local community through its annually participation in a science outreach program at nearby Antheil Elementary School, and provides BioGuide open house tours to prospective Biology students. This program promotes interest in science for school children by engaging them in fun and educational activities. Our chapter also hosts the Department of Biology Seminar Series, which features research presentations in various fields of biology. Its members participate in the annual Campus Blood Drive, TCNJ and Biology Holidays (which provide handmade ornaments for local rehab centers, hospitals, and nursing homes), and Trenton Area Soup Kitchen Halloween Party. Other activities sponsored by the chapter include the "How to Get Involved in Research" workshop, Biology Formal, Coloring & Coffee De-Stress events, Ecology Trail Cleanups and Litter Picks, Darwin Day Bake Sale with proceeds benefitting the Galapagos Conservancy and, science fair judging at Hopewell Elementary School. Additionally we ask members to submit designs for yearly departmental t-shirts, sweatshirts, and stickers. The organization received the Lloyd M. Bertholf Award in 1999, 2005 and 2009 as the most outstanding Tri-Beta chapter in the nation. In 1998 and 2000, the Chi Upsilon Chapter was awarded the President's Academic Cup for having the highest average GPA of all on-campus organizations. Students who have conducted research have presented their work at the Beta Beta Beta Northeastern Region District-2 Convention as well as other regional and national research conferences. Our induction ceremony in April has included guest speakers ranging from acclaimed authors to Nobel Laureates.
